Petra Gieffers lebt und arbeitet als freie Künstlerin in Hamburg. Die Autodidaktin hat 2004 mit der Malerei begonnen. In zahlreichen Seminaren namhafter Künstler hat sie ihr handwerkliches Know-how verfeinert und ihre eigene Bildsprache gefunden. In der Öffentlichkeit zeigt die Künstlerin ihre Arbeiten seit 2008.

Der Schwerpunkt ihrer Malerei liegt im Figürlichen. Auch ihre freien, assoziativen Arbeiten sind selten ganz abstrakt. In fast allen Bildern findet sich eine Figur, ein Mensch, ein Tier oder ein Fabelwesen. Petra Gieffers malt intuitiv und schafft dabei Werke, die Geschichten erzählen. Da ist die Reiterin, die auf den ersten Blick fast ungegenständlich anmutet, der geflügelte Trauerschwan, der durch eine farbig markante Landschaft zieht, der Paradiesvogel, der sich in einer märchenhaften Farbwelt präsentiert oder der „Überflieger“ in einer wundervollen Pflanzenpracht.

Neben der Bildsprache und den Formen sind es auch die ungewöhnlichen Farbkombinationen, die den Betrachter in ihren Bann ziehen. Die Künstlerin arbeitet mit Acryl und Öl, sowie in Mischtechnik. Trotz der Gegensätzlichkeit von hellen und dunklen, leuchtenden und gedeckten Farben zeugen die Bilder von Petra Gieffers von großer Harmonie.

Ein weiterer Werkkomplex der Künstlerin befasst sich mit dem Tierportrait. In einigen dieser Arbeiten geht es nicht um die detailgenaue Wiedergabe, sondern vielmehr um die freie Interpretation. Andere Arbeiten zeigen die tierischen Persönlichkeiten im Detail. So oder so präsentiert Petra Gieffers das Wesen der Tiere, die Schönheit, den Stolz oder die Erhabenheit. Mit einem gekonnten Strich, manchmal grob und manchmal detailgetreu zeigt sie den Kern, den innersten Ausdruck ihres Gegenübers.

Sowohl die freien, assoziativen Arbeiten von Petra Gieffers als auch die Tierportraits bieten dem Betrachter einen großen Raum für Interpretationen und Deutungsmöglichkeiten. Er hat die Möglichkeit innerhalb der tiefgründigen Form- und Farbgebung eigene Inhalte und Geschichten zu entdecken.
